Change in Temperature

There are several reactions which occur with change in temperature.

1.When quicklime (calcium oxide) is treated with water in a beaker, a large quantity of heat is produced. As a result, the beaker becomes very hot. Such reactions in which heat is produced are called exothermic reactions.

Activity :

Take a little of quicklime in a hard-glass beaker. Add water to it slowly. Touch the beaker. The beaker feels to be quite hot.

The chemical reaction between quicklime and water to form slaked lime is characterized by a change in temperature.
